What is CYOS???

These days the children are writing their own blogs. They are mentioning CYOS a lot. CYOS is Choose Your Own Subject for homework. The children have done fantastic work. Some have made models, others have prepared reading stories or poems, made pictures, set up science projects and prepared songs and music.

We have all learned so much from each other. Every Friday we see what super projects are ready for demonstration and performance. Have a look at some CYOS projects:

Hello my name is Chloe Fox.  For Bookweek I am making a model of Horrid Henry’s under pants and you can make it too. First you get a cardboard box and look at the end of the box. Cut two holes at the bottom of the box but you might need a grownup to cut the holes. Next part you get two empty toilet rolls and stick them through the holes. Carefully tape them in. Then get a pencil and do your design. When you are happy with it go over it with a black marker and do it carefully so your design is not ruined. Then ask your parents for permission to paint your design and then paint the box. Then get two more empty toilet rolls at the end of the toilet   rolls container cut two holes and stick the leg In then you are done.

Hello my name is Chloe Gilmartin and for bookweek I made a boy and a girl up in a tree and you can make one too. First you get a cardboard box then you cut a side of the box. Then you get blue paint and paint the bottom of the box. Then make a tree and paint it. Make two people. Stick them to the tree. Get a stone paint a leaf or anything that you see in the water. And make sure  you get mum or dad’s permission because you can make a very very big mess and when you are cutting the box you will need a KNIFE and as always, be careful. Chloe Gilmartin. 


Hello. Yesterday I went playing with my friends. I played football, I played chasing and I played then I went home. When I went home Kerry and I were playing video games. And then we were watching T.V and we had to do our maths. So when we did our maths we played our video games and we watched T.V again. And today Kerry and I were still watching T.V. On the weekends we were playing our WII and we stayed late so we got sleepy and sleepy and sleepy and we went like this ’zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz’. On Sunday we were eating our breakfast and then we were eating our lunch and then we had supper. We went to a shop and I saw my friend so were talking and talking then we went home. Cian

Hi my name is Dane. For cyos I made a papier -mache shark and you can make one too. You will need wallpaper paste, cardboard, strips of newspaper, paints and a pencil. .First you draw a picture of a shark. Then you get basin and then tear the newspaper into strips. After that you get the paste and the newspaper strips and put it all into the basin. Stir it all and place it on your picture and let it dry. When it is dry, paint it and then it is ready for display. You can draw anything for your papier-mache picture.

Hi my name is David.  For my CYOS I was reading a book and my brother’s birthday is in 18 days. And my mum’s birthday is in 7 days. And I am going to play with my toys when I go home. I am so cool and Antonio is so cool. We go outside being good.  Tomorrow I will go to sleep at ten o’ clock. Today we are going to watch T.V.  007 is so cool and 006 001 002 003 009 008 005 004. We watch James Bond.

Hi my name is Emmanuel. For my CYOS I made a drink that goes fizzy when you shake it. Knew what was in it? My next CYOS was a piece of reading. I read about BODY BURPS. On the page there was a big tummy.

Hi my name is Aminat. For my cyos I drew a picture. It was a dolphin and it was swimming in the sea. It was a pink dolphin. And today 10/2/12 I am going to read one of my favourite books, Crystal the Snow Fairy. It’s a very good book and I like it. You should read it too, it’s good. And the best part is when they go to the hills and get the magic feather and capture the goblin and when the goblin rolls down into a snowball. And rolls on the hill and when the children are playing in the snow and making stuff. The snow gets deeper and deeper.

Hello my name is Kingsley. I made a filter for my CYOS. You can make one too. You need two bottles and cotton wool. You cut one bottle in half and you put water and mud inside the other bottle. You put the cotton wool on the top of the bottle that you cut in half. You place the top of the bottle that is cut in half on top of the other half. You pour the dirty water in and out comes clean water.

Hi my name is Kerija. For CYOS I did a picture of a chibi girl on the stage. We needed to go in front of the class. We show it to the whole class and when where done we sit down. And for this CYOS I might read to the class.

Hi my name is Kristians. I made silly man. You can make him too. You need a small box and paint and five pieces of paper. Make a square out of paper then draw a face. Paint the box any colour you want. Roll the first paper then tape the paper . Role the second paper and tape it. Role the third paper and tape it. Role the forth paper and tape it. Put the hands and legs on the box. And then the head.

Hi my name is Naana. For my CYOS I drew a big panda, a mommy panda and a baby panda. First I drew a big circle for the daddy panda then I drew a small circle in the big circle in the small circle I drew the mouth and the nose. Then I drew the eyes and I coloured the eyes. Then I started drawing the ears. Then you colour the ears black and that’s how you draw your panda. And I drew a smurf. I just drew a huge circle and drew the nose, mouth, eyes, eyebrow, an ear and a hat. Then I coloured the circle. And I drew a heart. I had to draw a huge heart and I drew fire on the heart.                              The Measles

I woke up in the morning to get a cup of tea
But when I looked in the mirror I didn’t see me.
I saw another girl with spots all on her face.
"Oh, no" I said aloud, "I look like disgrace.
I might have caught the chickenpox.
I might have caught the measles.
I might have caught a sickness to look more like a weasel".
Then my Mum came down all cross and said with a frown.
"Get back into bed you look like a clown".

Hi my name is Stephanie and I read for the class so I read something about African animals and that was what I did for cyos.

Hi my name is Victoria for cyos I am making a foam maker it is very easy to make  first you get a bottle and cut the bottom off and get a old cloth and cut make sure that you’ve got some of the cloth is sticking out then get an elastic band and rap it round the cloth that is sticking out  then get soap and put it in a cup and get water and put it in a cup. Then last but not least dip the bottle with the side where the cloth is blocking the open bottle side and blow at the other side and as you can see foam is coming out.

First  you  get  your   pencil  and draw  a  circle  then you draw a bigger circle  for the  stomach then  you  draw  the legs  of the  dog. We printed it out from the computer .We practised it out in yard. And then we sang it for the class. The song was “The Only Exception”.

CYOS MORGAN AND JAKE

Hello my name is Morgan. I made my own guitar using a small plate,a shoe box,bamboo stick a pen duck tape and and rubber bands.
First you get the carboard box and the plate then you get a pen and draw a circle around the plate.
Second you get a scissors and cut the circle out.
Then you poke six holes on each side of the circle in-line with each other.
Get six rubber bands or hair bobbins and cut them anywhere.
Then get some more cardboard and draw the neck of the guitar.
Then cut it out.
Draw the strings and then paint it.
Poke a hole in the small side of the shoe box.
Get the bamboo stick and sellotape the it inside the shoe box
Now sellotape the top of the shoe box.
When it is dry outline it with a black pen.
Your not really able to use normal sellotape.  

Hello my name is Jake. I made a anchor, you can make it too.
First you get a shoebox.
After you get a black page and you put it on the box.
You fold a blue page and cut the shape of the anchor.
You stick the anchor onto the shoebox
You need another black page to cut into strips, later you have to fold them and staple them together. Do it 10 times to make the chain.
Cut the top of the shoebox to make the stand.

The Tayleur

We have been learning about the ship the Tayleur.

It set sail from Liverpool on 19 January 1854 on its maiden voyage to go to Melbourne, Australia

and crashed into Lambay Island, 21 January 1854. It was the biggest and fastest iron chipper ship at that time. It was very comfortable and the owners thought it would never sink. It was chartered by the White Star Line. We hope you enjoy our stories and picture boards of the Tayleur.

The Tayleur

In 1853 the Tayleur was built. It  was made from iron and was the fastest iron clipper in the world. It was travelling to Australia and had 652 people on board. It was passing Ireland and headed to Lambay. It dropped both anchors but the chain snapped like string. They tried to turn but crashed into the nose of Lambay.

Out of 100 women 3 were saved. Out of 50 children 3 reached shore. Out of 502 men 284 survived. 290 people were saved and brought to safety.

The Tayleur was a ship that was made in Liverpool and tried to sail to Melbourne in Australia. But on a stormy day it crashed into Lambay rocks because Captain Noble's compass wasn't working. So then Captain Noble tried to get all of the passengers off the boat.

A long time ago there was a shipwreck called the Tayleur. The Tayleur was going to Melbourne but it crashed into Lambay. The ship was made out of iron and the compass wasn't working.

The men and women that lived on Lambay came and helped get people off of the boat. A doctor was trying to save his wife and daughter but he drowned.

Three days later people came to the rescue. A man who didn't die went on another ship and that one got wrecked and he went on another boat and finally got to Australia.

The Tayleur

The Tayleur was a ship in the olden days. On the way to Australia they crashed into Lambay. They were supposed to go from Liverpool to Australia to get jobs in Melbourne. They did not reach there because they crashed.

When Captain Noble was using the compass it went crazy because the ship was made out of iron and it was magnetic. Captain Noble tried to steer the wheel. He could not steer the wheel because of the storm. There were a few sailors on deck trying to help the captain. Out of 579 people there were only 289 survivors.  Captain Noble was in charge of the rescue operation.

The Tayleur

On the 19th of January 1854 the Tayleur set sail from Liverpool to go to Melbourne, Australia. The Tayleur headed into a storm and crashed into Lambay Island.

One reason they crashed was the captain was checking the ship when he hurt his back and could not steer the ship right. Another reason they crashed was because the ship was magnetic and made the compass go mad.

The ship had three masts and 579 passengers. All the passengers were on the same deck and it was very hard to breath. Out of the 100 women on board only 3 of them were survivors and out of all the sailors 10 of them did not speak English.

Two men held onto the mast and rescue boats came to save them. On the 19th July 1959 divers found the wreck of the Tayleur.
